Privacy Policy

Accent is an English pronunciation practice app. This policy explains what information Accent uses and why.
Information we use
- Account data: when you sign in with Google on the web or Apple in the native app, Accent receives your email address and a provider account identifier. Apple may provide a private relay email. Native Apple sign-in requests your email, not your full name. Apple tokens are encrypted before storage and used to validate access and revoke authorization when deleting your account.
- Practice data: selected accent, preferences, practice duration, streaks and points.
- Voice data: while Alex is active, microphone audio and conversation content are sent to OpenAI to provide the live conversation. Accent’s servers do not save audio recordings or transcript text. OpenAI states that API content may appear in abuse-monitoring logs retained for up to 30 days by default, unless a longer period is legally required. Accent has not verified that its OpenAI project has an approved retention exception. Native offline rehearsals use temporary recordings on your device, deleted when you close the lesson. The app briefly reads transcript events to recognize speaking activity; it does not display or retain that text.
- Purchases: for App Store subscriptions, Accent verifies signed transaction identifiers, product, renewal status and purchase dates with Apple. A pseudonymous account token connects the purchase to your Accent account. Accent stores allowance usage to deliver paid voice minutes; it does not receive your payment card details.
- Security data: cookies, short-lived authorization records, rate-limit counters and network information used to prevent abuse.
How information is used
We use this information to run sign-in, remember preferences, calculate progress, provide a pseudonymous weekly leaderboard and protect the service. Accent does not sell personal data or use Google user data for advertising.
Sharing and storage
Data is processed by service providers needed to operate Accent, including Apple and Google for sign-in, Supabase for application storage, Vercel for web hosting, Cloudflare Turnstile for abuse prevention and OpenAI for live voice. Each provider processes data under its own terms. Leaderboards show your display name and avatar if your profile has them, or a generated pseudonym otherwise. Your email and account identifiers are not shown to other learners. Apple sign-in does not automatically turn your name or email into a public display name.
Your OpenAI API key
If you provide your own OpenAI API key, it stays in the current browser tab and active voice connection. Accent does not save it in its database or browser storage. Closing or reloading the tab removes it.
Retention and choices
Session and most security records have expiry times; expired records are no longer accepted. Minimal device and rate-limit records help prevent repeated free-trial claims. Practice and account data remain while your account is active. You can stop future collection by signing out and not using live voice. In the native app, Apple accounts can be deleted through You → Account & synced practice → Delete account, with Apple confirmation. This deletes the account, practice history, sign-in tokens and assistant connections, and clears local practice on that device. Anonymous aggregate usage totals and limited device abuse-prevention records remain. To prevent old Apple account-change messages from affecting a newer sign-in, we also retain hashed Apple account and event identifiers, event and sign-in times, and an email-enabled flag after account deletion. These security records do not contain your email, raw Apple identifier, recordings or sign-in tokens. They have a 36,500-day expiry from their last update and are pseudonymous, not anonymous. Pseudonymous purchase and paid-usage records have a 400-day expiry from their last update and may remain after account deletion so that restoration cannot duplicate an allowance. Deleting your Accent account does not cancel an App Store subscription; manage or cancel it through Apple’s subscription settings. For Google accounts, you may request access or deletion through the support contact shown on Accent’s Google consent screen. You can separately erase local rehearsals in the native app’s privacy settings.
Updates
We may update this policy as Accent changes. The date above identifies the current version.
